Q: What is a XLIM for, and how does it work?
An XLIM-16-00 is an interface between off-the-shelf 0-10V dimmers, and the proprietary MedLux monochrome dimming control signal we use.
The XLIM box generally runs from a 16VAC 10VA "doorbell" transformer. However, the box can also run on 12-24VDC.
We have an optional 277VAC to 24VAC 20VA transfomer that can be specified instead of the standard "doorbell" transformer.
To avoid interference with the MRI, our MedLux equipment uses a special form of pulse width modulation (PWM).
This same waveform allows the ECL-53-CR monochrome dimmer to be used either in the control room, or in the shield room.
However, the XLIM box does not have sufficient shielding to be used in the shield room, so it is normally mounted in the equipment room.
The 0-10V signal from an off-the-shelf "Lutron like" dimmer is fed from the control room to the XLIM in the equipment room.
Although the XLIM is also compatible with off-the-shelf 12VDC PWM dimmers, we recommend using 0-10V dimming systems.
The XLIM can also work with 0-10V analog or 12VDC PWM DMX decoders.
Q: What does an XLIM box look like, and how do I use it?

Q: What is a ECL-54-BOOST, and why would I need one?
The ECL-54-BOOST is an optional addon box to increase the output current of the monochrome dimming signal.
It can be used on the output of either the ECL-53-CR, ECL-53-MD, or XLIM dimmers.
Each of these dimmers has a 12VDC 100mA PWM output.
The ECL-54-BOOST will increase the output wavform current to 250mA.
An installation would only need a ECL-54-BOOST if there were too many loads (see link below) or a very long wiring run.
