The monochrome dimmer ECL-53-CR can be located in either the control room or the shield room.

When located in the control room, it is powered by a 16VAC 10VA doorbell transformer.
This doorbell transformer can be located in the control room ceiling or the equipment room.
The small transformer mounts to the cover plate of a double wide utility box.
These parts are included with the monochrome dimmer.

 
When the monochrome dimmer is located in the shield room, it can be powered in one of three ways.

First, we do have installations where the doorbell transformer is mounted in the shield room.
The location must be as far away from the MRI magnet as possible, as the transformer is attracted to it.
The 120VAC powering the doorbell transformer must be filtered.

Second, the doorbell transformer can be mounted in the equipment room, and the 16VAC can be fed into the shield room through a filter.

The third option for powering the monochrome dimmer is to hook it up to 24VDC on a spare output in a Cove fuse box, if Cove is available.
 
RGB color control keypads (ECL-49-KIT) for Cove or CCT must always be located in the control room.
The color control keypads work in conjunction with the driver module ECL-42-02, which must be located in the equipment room.
The RGB outputs of the ECL-42-02 driver module pass through signal filters before entering the shield room.
Q: Can the MedLux keypad controls be ganged together like a 3-way switch?
The monochrome dimmers ECL-53-CR can not be ganged together.
A wall switch can be added to override the dimmer and completely turn the light on or off.
Monochrome Cove fixtures are dark without a control signal.
All other MedLux fixtures (XLS, GPI) are full on without a dimming control signal.

The current version of the RGB color control keypads can be ganged together, if needed.
They are connected with CAT-5e Ethernet cables.
Field installations with more than a pair of ECL-49-KIT keypads should be tested.
As stated above, the color control keypads must be located in the control room.
